Another semester of classes has just wrapped up at East Carolina University. Thousands of students made their way into Dowdy Ficklen Stadium for the big graduation ceremony and walked out as college graduates. As they all prepare to venture out into the real world to find jobs, housing, etc., a new slew of soon-to-be college students are gearing up for the journey of becoming official ECU Pirates. A summer full of several student orientations will soon kick off. With that being said, this tends to be a very busy, hectic and emotional time for those who just graduated high school, as well as their families. That’s one of the reasons all first-year students are required to attend an orientation program. The information given at orientation will be important to your success at ECU. Students will participate in academic sessions, meet with representatives from their chosen academic department and or/academic advisors from the area of their intended major, and discuss fall semester classes. In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet and connect with new peers, and learn important information about life at ECU from current students.
Family members are encouraged to attend orientation with their student. It is an excellent time for you to get information and helpful hints on how to help your student through their college experience. It will also give you a chance to ask questions and get to know some of the students, staff and faculty that will be working with your student throughout their college career. ECU also offers a Family Orientation Program family members get an introduction to what their student will experience at ECU. It conveniently runs at the same time as the student program, but in a different format.
Registration materials for summer orientation are mailed to accepted first-year students. Transfer students will receive orientation information via ECU email. Students can register for an orientation session online by going to ecu.edu/orientation. Keep in mind, there is a limited number of spaces orientation sessions.
East Carolina University assigns students and family members to orientation sessions on a first-received, first-served basis. Therefore, if there is a particular session that is the most convenient for you, be sure to register as soon as possible. You should make travel arrangements as soon as you have a confirmed orientation date.
