THE BIRDS BY ARISTOPHANES
The Birds By Aristophanes Adapted and Directed by Jason Coale In this classic Greek comedy with a modern/local spin, two intrepid travelers depart Eastern North Carolina in search of greener pastures. Their journey takes them on an adventure to start a city with the birds and an epic battle with Zeus himself. This original adaptation is full of humor, music and dance. MINI MASTERS’ CAMPS AGES 3 TO 5 Morning Camp Zootropolis 9am until 12noon Watch out! Nature and art combine worlds in this cool camp perfect for guys and gals! Learn how to build all kinds of animals and their dwellings. Campers will learn about the unique characteristics of their favorite creepy crawlers and fun flyers as we create one-of-a-kind artwork inspired by the nature that surrounds us every Ages: 3 to 5 (must be potty trained) Spaces Available: 20 Cost: $85 for emerge members, $125 for emerge non-members REG CODE: MM-0
EMERGING ARTIST CAMPS GRADE K TO 5 Morning Camp Contemporary Masterpieces 9am until 12noon Your camper will study the fascinating techniques used by famous modern artists and learn to create their own modern masterpieces. Clay, painting, photography, and sculpture will be explored. Grade K to 5 Cost: $85 for emerge members, $125 for emerge non-members REG CODE: EA-01 Afternoon Camp Discovering Textiles: Cut, Dye, Alter 1pm until 4pm Let your children make their own impression in this world! Sign up for Silk painting is a very unique craft. The ink used soaks into the silk, providing ample opportunities to try different techniques and patterns. Students will also explore various fabric activities including sewing, fabric collages and more. Campers walk away having learned something valuable, and have a beautiful piece of art to show for it. ADVANCED YOUTH CAMPS GRADE 6 & UP Morning Camp Clay Sculptures 9am until 12noon Are you ready to get 3 dimensional!? Campers will utilize clay as they create one-of-a-kind, complex sculptures utilizing a variety of handbuilding techniques and glazing applications. Participants will create functional sculptures including, but not limited to birdbaths, garden ornaments, cookie jars and more. Grade 6 & up Spaces Available: 20 Cost: $85 for emerge members, $125 for emerge non-members REG CODE: AY-01 Afternoon Camp Drawing Fundamentals 1pm until 4pm Are you interested in learning to draw or perfecting your work? Drawing is a way of communicating and seeing the world that surrounds us. This class will help you learn the principles of design, perspective, and composition. Each class will focus on a specific demonstration and strategy. Participants will work on lessons in class and group sharing of work will be encouraged. EAST CAROLINA PIANO FESTIVAL
The East Carolina Piano Festival brings together internationally acclaimed artists and talented young pianists to eastern North Carolina for a week of exciting concerts, masterclasses, and exploration of art of piano performance from varied and wide-ranging perspectives. Young Artist Program participants will work closely with East Carolina University piano faculty and guest artists in an intensive yet encouraging and supportive atmosphere to strive for the highest artistic standards. The focus will be on discovering one’s own voice and conviction as a musician and exploring new possibilities through sharing ideas and experiences with peers and seasoned faculty & guest artists. In addition to piano faculty at East Carolina School of Music, distinguished guest artists for the 2018 festival will include Hungarian pianist Peter Frankl, Israeli-American pianist Benjamin Hochman, and American pianist Andrew Tyson. There will be three public concerts by the faculty & guest artists, as well as final concerts by the Young Artist Program participants. Saturday, June 23, 7:30pm Featuring guest and faculty artists Benjamin Hochman, Yukiko Sekino, Keiko Sekino, Kwan Yi and John O’Brien, Ravel, Bizet and others.
